Technical command reference for IT administrators managing Volume License environments

Activate Windows

Open CMD as Admin

Run as administrator Task Manager Settings File Explorer Run

Right-click Start button, select "Terminal (Admin)" or "Command Prompt (Admin)"

Enter Commands

Administrator: cmd C:\Windows\System32> slmgr /skms <your-kms-server> C:\Windows\System32> slmgr /ato

Copy and paste the activation commands, then press Enter

Activation Complete

Administrator: cmd C:\Windows\System32>slmgr /ato Windows Script Host Product activated successfully. OK

You will see "Product activated successfully" when done

Activate Office

Enter Office Commands

Administrator: cmd C:\...\Office16> cscript ospp.vbs /sethst:<your-kms-server> C:\...\Office16> cscript ospp.vbs /act

Navigate to the Office installation directory, then run the activation commands

Office Activated

Administrator: cmd C:\...\Office16>cscript ospp.vbs /act Microsoft Office Product activation successful. OK

You will see "Product activation successful" when done

Check Windows Version

Administrator: cmd C:\Windows\System32> wmic os get caption Caption Microsoft Windows 11 Pro C:\Windows\System32>

Run this command to check if your Windows is a VL version

Check Office Version

Check Office License

Administrator: cmd C:\...\Office16> cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus ---Processing-------------------------- --------------------------------------- LICENSE NAME: Office 16, ProPlusVL_KMS LICENSE STATUS: ---LICENSED--- C:\...\Office16>

Run this command in the Office directory to view license status
